FAQ
What is BlögHöp?BlogHop is a weblog portal, where you can search for blogs by tag, rating, or freshness. When you see the BlogHop rating buttons on a website, that means you can rate that blog! Here are the ratings:
Why are there so few blogs on BlogHop?Each blog is hand-checked for suckyness. Most of the time, we are able to filter out the pointless or offensive blogs... though as you will find, several get through. It's so hard to click "no", "no", "no" when reviewing blogs, but we do it for you, because we want you (the anonymous surfer) to like us. So during every review session, we'll go through about 100 blogs, and then approve 40 or 50. Meanwhile, we're checking the "dead link" file and removing another 30. So BlogHop grows very slowly. We're pretty proud of getting to 35,000 listings. How do I list more than one blog? There is a limitation of one blog per email address. This is due to how bloghop was architected in 1998 (badly). We didn't think it would grow into a real website — we didn't even have user accounts when we first started!! So today, you can list more than one blog by using different email addresses. The email address doesn't have to be real — that only matters if you forget your password and can't have bloghop mail it to you. Since we never email our users (at least, not in 9 years), you can have more than one blog by changing your email like this: It's not perfect, but it will work. Why did my blog disappear?Your blog may have passed the initial approval, but during one of our frequent reviews we found that it had either:
We have robots that check our links, and if you're listed as broken — and you're still broken when a human checks it, we flag it as "broken". You can still log in and change your URL, but nobody else will see this broken listing. Elitist scum!!1!eleven!! I did not get my crappy blog listed!!1!11Sorry, your blog probably had something wrong with it. Here is the long explanation which was on the front page for a while: How to get your blog listing deleted (2006-09-29 12:22:03) Are you an acne-ridden teen porn star trying to maximize your AdSense income through real estate? Then don't post your freakin' blog here! Every day, people register loads and loads of blogs they'd like listed on Bloghop. But we don't approve all of them. This is not your typical blog directory, where anyone can just list anything just to get it listed. We have a mission: to list the coolest blogs we can. We want to list the blogs you want to read! Here are the most common reasons blogs are not approved:
If you register and submit a blog that has one of the characteristics listed above, it will be deleted, thankyouverymuch. We won't tell you it's deleted... you just suddenly won't be able to log in. So, don't re-register the same blog over and over. A real person is reviewing all blogs, and she gets annoyed at looking at the same RSS for real estate for acne-ridden teen porn stars trying to maximize their AdSense income. How long does it take to get listed?BlogHop has traffic spikes, where suddenly everybody in the world is submitting blogs. During those spikes, and for a while afterwards, it can take up to a week. (ERm, ok, sometimes two weeks.) When we're on top of things, it takes under 72 hours. Why this long? We check each blog by hand, and meanwhile, we try to keep our existing listings nice and tidy. Sure, we have robots scouring all our links, but some services return very odd results (looking at you, XANGA). The bloghop robot army is just the first step. A bloghop human has to view every listing also. How come I'm not getting rated?People who display their bloghop ratings buttons prominently get rated. But if you're hoping people will rate your blog through the BlogHop site, well:
What is it with the umlauts? Why is it "BlögHöp"?In 2000 when we launched the site, we thought it looked cool. Then we lost the font face we used. Now it's too late to change without angering our German users (hey, S****ßkopfen!). Round 2: Do you know that umlauts change the pronunciation, idiot? Cool. Cooool. That's all there is.
